Trip 9: Zermatt, Switzerland

We spent the last 5 days in the cutest most quaint mountain village with the most magnificent views of the Swiss Alps . . . absolutely breathtaking!  On Wednesday morning we flew from Dusseldorf to Zurich, Switzerland and took a Hi-speed train south to Zermatt (~3.5 hrs) which is near the Italian border.  The views through the towns and up through the mountains from the train were quite spectacular as well.  When we arrived in Zermatt it was as if we were transplanted to another world/era/continent/etc. The village sits in the valley with 360 degree views of the mountains with no cars and the streets lined with hotels/resorts, ski shops, restaurants and bars . . a skiers paradise!  The most memorable moments besides the incredible views will probably be enjoying our lunches up in the mountains outside in the beautiful sun.  I was very surprised to see so many people eating outside in the middle of the winter (0-25 degrees Fahrenheit) but the sun felt so warm and so close that you almost forgot how cold it was.  Here are some fun facts and some photos from our trip.
