Today was the Het Parcours, the opening of the cultural season in Maastricht. The celebration included free live theater, dancing and music with different genres of music at each of the squares throughout the city. Jamie and I walked around both city centers checking out the festivities and many of the different bands. We ended up getting a table at a restaurant in our favorite square, Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, which featured jazz bands. And just in time as it started raining again (it rains just about everyday here!). We had just missed David Rhodes, a well known musician, but caught two other great bands. We also stopped at the Basilica of Our Lady (in Dutch: Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek) to say a prayer and light a candle in remembrance of the victims of 9/11.
We ended the weekend and evening at a little Italian restaurant, Quattro Mori, near our place that has been closed due to holiday (vacation) since we got here. They had fabulous pizza, salad and wine! We will definitely be going back.
